Brooklyn Museum Brooklyn Museum Brooklyn Museum Brooklyn Museum is an art museum situated in Brooklyn, New York City Borough of Brooklyn. It is spread across 560,000 sq ft (52,000 sq meters), is the third largest in the physical space, and is home to an art collection comprising about 500 000 objects. It is situated inside Brooklyn’s Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, Flatbush, and Park Slope neighborhoods of Brooklyn and was first established in 1895. The Beaux-Arts structure that McKim Mead, Mead, and White designed was the largest collection of art worldwide. The museum could not initially preserve its buildings and collections thanks to massive improvements, but it was restored in the second period into the second half of the twentieth century. One of the largest parts of the museum is antiquities, which include an assortment of Egyptian antiquities which extend over 3000 years. European, African, Oceanic, and Japanese art forms essential collections of antiquities. American art is represented well, starting with the colonial period. The artists featured in the collection include Mark Rothko, Edward Hopper, Norman Rockwell, Winslow Homer, Edgar Degas, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Max Weber. The museum also hosts an exhibit titled”The Steinberg Family Sculpture Garden, “which showcases the architecture salvaged from New York City.
Brooklyn Museum’s historical roots extend to 1823 when it was founded in 1823 by Augustus Graham of the Brooklyn Apprentices Library situated within Brooklyn Heights. The library was relocated to the Brooklyn Lyceum building on Washington Street in 1841. The following year, they joined to form The Brooklyn Institute, which offered painting and sculpture exhibitions and lectures on various subjects. The director was Franklin Hooper; Institute leaders changed into The Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences and established plans to create The Brooklyn Museum. The museum was a component of the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences, comprised of The Brooklyn Academy of Music and The Brooklyn Botanic Garden, along with The Brooklyn Children’s Museum, until the 1970s, when the museums separated.

Collections
Brooklyn Museum Brooklyn Museum Brooklyn Museum has built a variety of Egyptian artifacts since the first period of the 20th century. Both collections were sourced from different sources, such as the American Egyptologist Charles Edwin Wilbour. Their descendants also donated his library, the Wilbour Library of Egyptology, and other items discovered from archeological excavations sponsored by the museum. The Egyptian collection contains items ranging from statues, such as the well-known “Bird Lady” terra cotta statue, to records from papyrus (among others, including the Brooklyn Papyrus).
